Coach Dominic Sacco and his Sault College Cougars are Ontario Colleges Committee on Campus Recreation women’s hockey champions for the 2015-2016 season.

Playing at the eight-team provincial tournament that was held in Brantford recently, the sixth-seeded Cougars rose to the top by winning the OCCCR women’s hockey championship for the first time in school history.

The Cougars began their quest for glory with a 2-0 win over Fanshawe College and followed that up with a 3-2 triumph over reigning champions and top-seeded St. Lawrence College of Cornwall.

Then, in the quarter-finals, Sault College upended Mohawk College 4-1 and in the semi-finals, the Cougars defeated Fleming College of Peterborough 3-2 to advance to the title tilt.

And in the championship match, Sault College scored a 2-1 win over second-seeded University of Toronto-Scarborough to secure its first-ever championship.
