Sault hosting OHF event

This is the big time of hockey events for this level and age group. Sault Major Hockey Association and the Soo Under 15 AAA Jr. Greyhounds will play host to an elite event from April 12 to 16 of this year.

That is, the Ontario Hockey Federation’s All Ontario U15 AAA Provincial Championship is coming to Sault Ste. Marie. The event will feature the seven top U15 AAA hockey teams from across Ontario playing for the coveted OHF crown.

OHF manager of program and events Scott Stevens noted that “the Sault Ste. Marie U15 AAA All- Ontario Championship host committee has worked extremely hard to make sure this will be a memorable championship for all involved.  This championship will provide an opportunity for participating athletes to showcase their perseverance, teamwork, technical skills, and emotional strength, celebrating the culmination of their hard work, commitment and learning of many weeks and months of training prior to this championship. 

“The OHF wishes everyone success, but also emphasize that sportsmanship, friendships, and the cultural experiences are what make these championships so very special.  Please represent your team, association, and community with pride,” Stevens relayed in a release that was forwarded to Hockey News North.

 
The U15 AAA All Ontario Championship will feature the best hockey players from across the province in this age group compete at the Sault’s new arena, the Northern Community Centre.  The teams competing will be representatives of the following provincial branches — Hockey Eastern Ontario (HEO), Hockey Northwestern Ontario (HNO), the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA), the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL), Alliance Hockey (ALLIANCE), the Northern Ontario Hockey Association (NOHA) and the host (Soo Jr. Greyhounds).

Angel Barbisan, who is the president of SMHA and tournament co-chair, gave her association’s thoughts on the upcoming event.

The Sault Major Hockey Association is proud to host the U15AAA All Ontario Championships which is the pinnacle event for U15 AAA minor hockey players in Ontario.  This tournament serves to crown the best team from across the province at the U15 AAA level.

“We hope to make this an outstanding experience for the teams visiting our great region and in doing so, provide the players with the stage to showcase their skills in a highly skilled and competitive environment.  

“Sault Ste. Marie and the Sault Major Hockey Association have a long history of hockey excellence. We have produced and developed players, coaches and executives who have succeeded at the highest level – along with volunteers and athletes who have helped to further the development of the sport in the Sault,” Barbisan concluded.
