Silver medal for Silver Creek girls
Silver Creek Novice Wildcats of the Sault Female Hockey Association returned home from the Ontario Women’s Hockey Association provincial tournament recently with silver-medal honours.
The Wildcats won five straight games before falling 3-0 in the gold-medal game to the Sarnia Lady Sting.
Silver Creek got a boost from the defensive duo of Aliya Rowe and Maiana Boissoneau, who both had multi-point games throughout the tournament.
Meanwhile, Maddison Boissoneau, Molly Watson, Oliva Trudeau and Lauren Dickie were solid in patrolling the blueline.
The offensive attack saw every forward in the lineup record at least two points throughout the weekend.
The line of Laura Corrigal-Sierra Stefanizzi-Annika Babineau combined for 18 points. The Sarina Thibault-Haley Howe-Madisyn Syrette troika combined for 14 points and the Kylie Schryer-Tyya McKenzie-Ava Sewell unit chipped in with eight.
Corrigal and Thibault were the top goal-getters for the Silver Creek girls.
Goaltenders Chelsea Kingston and Sara Boston were standouts throughout the tournament, each recording a shutout.
“Every goal the opposition scored on us had to be earned, our forwards were committed to back-checking and our defence controlled both bluelines. When the other team did get a break, our goalies were difficult to beat,” praised coach Cody Boissoneau.
“Our defence did a good job at getting pucks to the net and our forwards did an excellent job of moving the puck and driving to the goal. I could not be more pleased with the effort put forth by each girl on this team,” added Boissoneau.
