Soo Eagles to Soo Indians

Doug Laprade has got himself a new head coaching gig ahead of the 2024-2025 season. But the 55 year old bench boss will not be leaving Sault Ste. Marie.

Rather, Laprade is moving on from the Soo Eagles of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League to the Soo Indians of the Under 18 level of the Michigan Amateur Hockey Association.

Laprade, who had been coaching the NOJHL Eagles since 2018, confirmed to Hockey News North that he will have an ownership stake in the U18 Indians as well as coaching them.

“This was a good opportunity for me to be part of the ownership of the Soo Indians and to coach them,” Laprade relayed to Hockey News North.

Laprade has a long association to hockey in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. He played four full seasons for the Lake Superior State University Lakers, a Division 1, National Collegiate Athletic Association program. He later was an assistant coach with the Lakers for five seasons and also coached the Sault High Blue Devils for seven years.
