Spring has sprung and the minor hockey season in Sault Ste. Marie is on session break until the fall. Or maybe it isn’t.

Tryouts for various rep and select hockey teams have been staged — and are being slated — preparatory to the 2018-2019 season.

For example, the Soo Pee Wee Hockey League held four days of tryouts earlier this week for its pee wee minor select team.

Intense, well-structured, one-and-a-half-hour sessions were held over the four-day span, the culmination of which was a full scrimmage divided into two teams.

The pee wee minor selects team will be coached by the reputable, respectable Jerry Lortie.

Lortie has extensive experience as a minor hockey coach in the Soo and in addition to his knowledge of the game, is known as an honest, down-to-earth individual who relates well with players.

Of note, Lortie is also an area scout for the Blind River Beavers of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League.
