Thunderbirds, Attack both win

Two-for-two in the Soo.

Sault Ste. Marie’s two Junior A hockey teams both scored home-ice victories on Tuesday night.

SOO THUNDERBIRDS 10, BLIND RIVER BEAVERS 2

The T-Birds moved back into first place atop the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League standings with the drubbing of the lowly Beavers.

Jaren Bellini scored twice and added two assists to pace the Soo, which boosted its record to 21-4-3.

With the loss, Blind River is now 0-29-1 on the season.

Next home game for the Thunderbirds is Friday night at 7:30 when they play host to the Mattawa Blackhawks at John Rhodes Community Centre.

BATCHEWANA ATTACK 3, ESPANOLA RIVERMEN 0

The Attack ran its Canadian International Hockey League record to 19-0-1 thanks to the shutout goaltending of Shane Lippincott and two goals from Chris Skinner.

Rob Delury also scored for the Attack, which plays host to the Kalkaska Rhinos this Sunday at 2 p.m. at Rankin Arena.

With the loss, Espanola now has a record of 13-8-1. The Rivermen will play host to Kalkaska on Friday night at 7:30.
