Truths and rumours

The truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth? What’s the fun in that? Let’s spice the truth by sprinkling in a few rumours.

…One of the hottest coaching candidates to move up to the Ontario Hockey League for the 2015-2016 season is Jason Clarke, who has guided the Carleton Place Canadians to back-to-back, Central Canada Jr. Hockey League championships.

…Two coaches who I would like to see behind the bench in 2015-2016, either as an assistant in the OHL or the main man of a Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League team: Denny Lambert, formerly of the OHL’s Soo Greyhounds and the Batchewana Attack of the erstwhile Canadian International Hockey League, and Doug Laprade, who has prior experience as an assistant with the Lake Superior State University Lakers of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.

…Formal approval is expected late this week or early next for the Espanola Express and Soo Eagles to join the NOJHL as its 11th and 12th teams. Coaches Tom McCarthy and Jason Rapcewicz and general manager Chad Clarke are the front men in Espanola. Majority owner Ron Lavin and general manager Bruno Bragagnolo are the Michigan Soo principals.

…NOJHL and Dudley-Hewitt Cup, Central Canada champion Soo Thunderbirds are for sale. Contact team operatorAlbert Giommi if interested.

…There is apparently no truth to the rumour that Iroquois Falls plans to name the road that leads out of town in honour of Timmins Rock president Scott Marshall.

…If I owned an NOJHL team or two (or three) I would hire Soo Thunderbirds GM Kevin Cain to oversee the entire hockey operations.

…If Rob Mazzuca decides not to return as NOJHL commissioner for next season the top candidate to replace him is Guy Blanchard, former owner, general manager, coach and mouthpiece of the erstwhile North Bay Skyhawks.

agreed RR, Kevin Cain is a class act and one of the best to lead any program, can’t say enough good things about him.

I think if Robert leaves the NOJHL then Guy Blanchard would be a good replacement for him, smart business man, knows his hockey and has somewhat done the job before if i remember correctly, him and scott marshall may have taken the reigns for a while when in between commissioners.

    great read as always RR.
