Two weeks after leaving Timmins with silver medals from the Under 13 AA Northern Ontario Hockey Association Tournament of Champions, the Soo Jr. Greyhounds are back in the same northeastern Ontario town this weekend for the Ontario Hockey Federation finals.

The Jr. Greyhounds will face off against the host — and NOHA champion — Timmins North Stars along with the London Green Knights, King City Rebellion and Vaughan Rangers at the three day event that begins on Friday.

The Soo earned its spot at this weekend’s OHF Championship Tournament by virtue of being the runner-up to the hosts from Timmins at the NOHA TOC two weeks ago.

All in all, round robin and playoffs included at the TOC, the host North Stars won all six of their games while the Jr. Greyhounds had a 4-2 record. The Soo’s only two losses were to Timmins — 4-0 during the round robin and 3-2 in the championship game.

Top performers for the Jr. Greyhounds at the NOHA TOC were goalies Carter Rome and Owen Whitehead, who had two wins apiece, Gavyn Nevers and Mason Pagnotta who both had five goals, and Tyler Diluzio who scored four times.

Looking ahead to this weekend at the OHF play downs, Jr. Greyhounds head coach Ryan Corcoran, appearing on a recent edition of the Hockey North Show podcast, said his players “need to realize that this tournament is like a chance of a lifetime for them. Not everyone gets to play for an OHF championship. Having said that, I am confident in our group going up against four really good teams. We have come a long way as a team and I can’t say enough about our players.”
