LONDON — Soo Under 13 AA Jr. Greyhounds left here with a good takeoff following an above board showing at a high end weekend tournament that featured a whopping 18 teams in their age group alone.

Western Fair Complex was the main site for the well attended, extremely run event that was put on by the host London Jr. Knights and featured 58 teams in four age groups — U10 AA, U11 AA, U12 AA and U13 AA.

In all, the U13 AA Jr. Greyhounds won two of four games and just missed out making it to the playoffs when they dropped a 4-3 decision to the Niagara Falls Flyers to conclude the round robin portion of the tournament schedule.

Jr. Greyhounds goalie Owen Whitehead gets a hug from his sister, Brooke Takacs, a first-year University of Windsor student who ventured to London to watch her younger brother play.

Jr. Greyhounds 3, Sarnia Jr. Sting 0. Gavyn Nevers scored two goals and added an assist and Owen Whitehead posted the shutout as the Soo began the tournament with the whitewash win. Tyler Diluzio also scored for the Jr. Greyhounds while Mason Pagnotta added two assists and Kipton Fera, Cohen Kellar and Rylan Gillson all had one helper apiece.

King Rebellion 7, Jr. Greyhounds 2. The Soo was no match for the eventual champions. Tyler Diluzio and Gavyn Nevers handled the Soo scoring while Owen Webb and Jeremy Jarratt had assists for the Jr. Greyhounds who spent much of the game shorthanded in front of goalie Carter Rome, who faced a barrage of shots and stood up to the onslaught.

Jr. Greyhounds 5, Kitchener Jr. Rangers 2. Gavyn Nevers, Kipton Fera, Mason Pagnotta, Ashlyn Rickard and Tyler Diluzio all found the back of the net and Owen Whitehead had his second win in as many starts between the pipes to spark the Soo to victory. Nevers and Pagnotta also had assists to go with their goals and Riely Deplonty and Carson Mick connected for an assist apiece.

Niagara Falls Flyers 4, Jr. Greyhounds 3. Trailing 3-0 at one point, the Jr. Greyhounds came back to make it close before dropping the one-goal match that gave Niagara Falls a playoff spot over the Soo. Gavyn Nevers scored twice for the Jr. Greyhounds to give him six goals in four games. Mason Pagnotta also scored for the Jr. Greyhounds while Riely Deplonty, Tyler Diluzio, Kipton Fera, Jasper Jarratt and Jeremy Jarratt all had assists. Niagara Falls outshot the Soo by a wide margin but the Jr. Greyhounds were kept in the game — especially in the third period — by goalie Carter Rome, who was under constant siege.
