Coach Terry Chitaroni and the under 14 AAA Soo Jr. Greyhounds have an overall record of 20-4-3 as they head into the 2022 segment of the minor hockey season.

Currently ranked 10th in Ontario, the U14 Jr. Greyhounds are keeping pace with the upper echelon teams of the province teams including the Vaughan Kings, Toronto Marlboros, Toronto Jr. Canadiens, and Peterborough Petes to name a few.

There are a total of 55 U14 AAA programs in Ontario and the Jr. Greyhounds are the first bantam level AAA team from Sault Ste. Marie in recent years to be ranked in the Top 10.

The Jr. Greyhounds are members of Northern Ontario Hockey League AAA U14 division and are currently undefeated within their alliance that includes the Nickel City Sons, Sudbury Nickel Capitals, and North Bay Trappers.

On the tournament front, the Soo squad showed well at three major Ontario events in the first half of the season.

Beginning the tournament season in October at the Barrie AAA event, they skated to a 2-2 record in the round robin before losing to eventual champion Barrie Colts in the semi-finals.

At the prestigious International Silver Stick Tournament in November, the Jr. Greyhounds finished the round robin with a 1-0-3 record including a season highlight tie vs. the powerhouse Vaughan Kings.

Vaughan had previously sported a clean 19-0 record as the top team in the province before that tie game. The Soo would go on to qualify for the quarter-finals against the Oakville Rangers, coming out with 4-1 victory and a berth in the semi-finals. The Toronto Marlboros would skate to victory in a tough semi-final match to send the Soo home.

Then, in early December, the Hounds skated to a 7-0 record including two overtime victories to be crowned the 2021 Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs Tournament champions.
