Sault Ste. Marie product Jake Wright is headed to Lakehead University in Thunder Bay where he will play hockey for the Thunderwolves effective the 2014-2015 season.

Wright, formerly of the Soo Thunderbirds of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League, played the past two seasons with the Woodstock Slammers of the Maritime Hockey League.

Lakehead coach Bill McDonald welcomes the addition of the hard-nosed Wright to the lineup of his Ontario University Athletics team.

“Jake has a competitive edge to his game. He’s very good in front of the net and along the boards. He goes to the hard areas to create goals. Plus he adds versatility in that he can play both centre and wing,” said McDonald.

A 1993 birth year, the 6-foot, 205-pound Wright led Woodstock in scoring in 2013-2014 with 24 goals, 53 assists, 77 points in 52 games.

“I am excited to start a new chapter in my life, combining hockey and education. After playing the last two years in New Brunswick, I’m looking forward to being closer to home. It’s an honour to be joining a Lakehead team of this caliber,” said Wright.
