Who’s hot and who’s not as we peruse the Ontario Hockey League, the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League and the Central Canada Hockey League:

OHL

HOT: The high-scoring duo of Ryan Moore and Nicholas Caamano are two reasons why the Flint Firebirds are off to a surprising 4-1 start. Moore has 5 goals, 9 assists, 14 points while Caamano has posted 5-8-13 totals…Picked up on waivers from the Kitchener Rangers, Soo Greyhounds overage forward David Miller has 5 goals, 3 assists, 8 points in 5 games…In just 3 games for the Windsor Spitfires, centre Logan Brown — who was the Ottawa Senators first-round pick at this year’s National Hockey League draft — has 1 goal, 5 assists, 6 points…In his first season as the starting goalie in the Soo, Greyhound twine tender Joseph Raaymakers has a record of 3-0 with a 1.94 goals against average and .930 save percentage.

NOT: After demanding to be traded by Flint, goalie Kyle Keyser has struggled with the Oshawa Generals with a record of 0-3, a 5.49 goals against average and .851 save percentage…Veteran goalie Leo Lazarev has been surprisingly ineffective for the Ottawa 67’s with a 1-2 record, 5.70 goals against average and .837 save percentage…With a record of 0-4, Saginaw Spirit is the only winless team in the league.

NOJHL

HOT: Newcomer Braedan Cross has been an impact forward for the East Division-leading Cochrane Crunch with 10 goals, 12 assists, 22 points in 9 games…1999 birth-year forward Mark Tassone has been lighting it up for the Soo Thunderbirds with 8 goals, 9 assists, 17 points…Young forwards Gregory Trudeau-Paquet and Caleb Rich have combined for 14 of the 28 goals that the French River Rapids have scored with 8 and 6 markers respectively…Mackenzie Savard has been a standout between the pipes for the Rayside-Balfour Canadians with a 4-1-1 record, 1.96 goals against average and .947 save percentage.

NOT: With a record of 0-9-1, French River is looking for its first win of the season…Iroquois Falls Eskis aren’t much better with a record of 1-7.

CCHL

HOT: Forward Grant Cooper of the Cornwall Colts has a league-leading 10 goals in 12 games…Zachary Salloum of the Cumberland Grads leads all defensemen with 4 goals, 9 assists, 13 points…Rookie defender Jarrad Vroman of the Pembroke Lumberkings has 1 goal, 6 assists, 7 points in 10 games. Prior to coming to the CCHL, Vroman played in the erstwhile Midwest Jr. Hockey League for the Detroit Fighting Irish and MC Monarchs before starring for the Detroit Belle Tire major midgets last season.

NOT: Gloucester Rangers have given up 47 goals and have a 3-7-2 record including an 0-5 mark on the road.

  1. Flint are the supprise team of the ‘O’ no doubt about it. I think that all of the moves that Burnet has made are already paying off in a such a big way.

  2. The Crunch are hot, they jumped up to number 8 in Canada, big game this friday night against the Birds.
