Batchewana, Espanola get the W

Batchewana Attack and Espanola Rivermen both scored home-ice victories in Canadian International Hockey League action on Friday.

BATCHEWANA 5, KALKASKA 1

The Attack improved its record to 13-0 by upending the visiting Rhinos.

Chris Zajac, Drake Pilon, Jacob Palmerio, Sergei Koroshun and Nate Harris scored for Batchewana and Dan Bellafiore replied for Kalkaska.

The two teams meet again tonight at 7:00 p.m. in the first-ever CIHL regular season game in Kalkaska.

ESPANOLA 6, SUDBURY 3

Alex Zerbel with a pair, Adam Johns, Andrew Demarco, Andrei Yanovich and Adrian Nicholas scored for the Rivermen before a partisan crowd of 577.

Matthew Verreault, Taylor Jordan and Daniel Blais replied for the Royals.

Both goalies played well, with Keegan Paulette making 33 saves for Espanola and Jake Mactaggart stopping 51 pucks in the Sudbury net.

The two teams face each other in a rematch this afternoon at 3:45 p.m. in Capreol.
