Batchewana on verge of CIHL title
Three down, one to go.
Batchewana Attack is on the verge of capturing the first-ever Canadian International Hockey League championship.
Before more than 600 fans in Espanola on Sunday afternoon, the visiting Attack cuffed the Rivermen 6-2 to take a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.
Nate Harris led Batchewana with two goals and Stefan Demetz made 29 saves.
Kendell Huckins, Rob Delury, Jacob Palmerio and Sergei Koroshun also scored for the Attack.
Andrei Yanovich and Andrew Demarco replied for Espanola.
The Attack has a chance to clinch the CIHL crown when it plays host to the Rivermen on Wednesday night at 7:00 at Rankin Arena.
With Solomon out of the line up it looked like the Rivermen would have a chance to beat the Attack but Kling stepped up his game to another level and controlled the defence for the Attack.
There were only two Defenceman for the Attack due to injuries. Kling and Baggs controlled the Defence. Two forwards came back to help out as well and did a great job in the win.
Yeah I noticed that. Great job,not always a fan of some of the show boating but most players were respectful
First round and championship round all at once I feel for the poor kids that don’t get more games in the playoffs.
Is it any different than a team losing in the first round of the playoffs? Must you continuously nitpick on all matters pertaining to the CIHL? The league has had its issues and struggles and its president has owned up to them.
Your right it is no different then a team losing in the first round Randy, but for players of the Attack who have been a great team all season getting to play only 4 playoff games (assuming that they win tonight) all of which you won is certainly not fair to them.
Northbay18,
For the record, I have not heard a single complaint from anyone associated with the Attack. And while they only get to play in one playoff round, Batchewana did take part in two showcase tournaments this season. Just saying.
Just pointing out that a championship quality team in the NOJHL will get 3 rounds of playoffs and the Dudley Hewitt Cup and a team in the GMHL will get 4 playoff rounds in comparison to one playoff round in the CIHL.
Just pointing out that the Batchewana Attack went to two showcase tournaments — which is two more than any NOJHL team.
I’m sure the players on the attack. Would rather play more them one round of playoffs . And 2 showcase tournaments is not the same as playoffs IMO .
