The fledgling Canadian International Hockey League has announced award winners from its first season of play.

With 18 goals, 28 assists, 46 points in 35 games, forward Darian Pilon of the Batchewana Attack led the CIHL in scoring.

Others recognized by the CIHL include 20-goal forward Jacob Palmerio of Batchewana as rookie-of-the-year and teammates Johan Kling as defenceman-of-the-year and Stefan Demetz as goalie-of-the-year.

As well, forward Cameron Anklewich of the Espanola Rivermen was named community service ambassador-of-the-year.

Meanwhile, Batchewana’s Denny Lambert is coach-of-the-year and Chad Clarke of Espanola is executive-of-the-year.

What you think about “CIHL award winners”

  1. What a joke how does Palmerio win rookie of the year two of the youngest players not win rookie of the year with the two Pilons when they lead the league then shane zorzit not mentioned with winning defensive point race and noticeably one of the best defence in the league

    1. I would assume the naming of Jacob Palmerio as Rookie of the Year has something to do with not only his stats (20G 11A 31PTS), but also the fact that he only amassed 20PIM all season and did not seek out attention with fighting or other bullshit that the league was known for. He is a good kid on and off the ice, which makes him a desire winner of such honor.

  2. I really hope that the CIHL returns for another season as it is a place for the local kids to have a chance to play. So this is why I hope that Massey get a team.

  3. Correction..Palmerio is a 17 year old, and if you ever watched the kid, he deserved that title more than anyone. It isn’t about the most points, but how much heart you have and what you leave on the ice every game….And I agree Zorzit is one of the best deff in the league.

    1. There is no way possible to compare every game in espanola the Pilons the Russian and Delury were the standouts on the team and the Pilons are a year younger and still noticeably better

  4. Who cares about awards the only one that matters is the championship. Scoring is just a bonus I just loved the boys. Congrats to Jake and Johan they deserve it and and I fought at times because of my role not the league -Drake Pilon

  5. And hockey guy we all have the same amount of heart for the game that is why we play it even with the tough year heart in our league was not a question

  6. pilon20…you say tomato…I say tamato….samething….just giving my opinion of the kid…he deserved it in my eyes…
