Here comes the Fighting Irish

Detroit Fighting Irish of the Midwest Jr. Hockey League is headed north for a pair of interlocking matches with the Espanola Rivermen and Batchewana Attack of the Canadian International Hockey League.

The Fighting Irish, which is in third place in the MWJHL with 55 points from a record of 26-10-3, faces the Rivermen tonight in a scheduled 7:30 start at the Espanola Recreation Complex.

Detroit then plays Batchewana on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 at Rankin Arena.

The Fighting Irish is led by veteran forward Ken Winter, who has 33 goals in 34 games this season.

Of the four goalies on the Detroit roster, George Hill has the best numbers with a 6-4-1 record, 3.77 goals against average and .892 save percentage.

Notably, one of Detroit’s top players, 1995 birth-year forward Jacob Hernandez, recently moved up a level to sign with the Soo Eagles of the North American Hockey League.
