Jimmy Roy shows his Spirit

Jimmy Roy is joining the St. Charles Spirit of the new Canadian International Hockey League from the Sudbury Nickel Barons of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League.

Roy, a 5-foot-7, 162 pound, 1994 birth-year forward “is a spark plug who will provide high-end energy and offence to the Spirit,” St. Charles general manager Scott Ginson told HockeyNewsNorth.com.

“Someone forgot to tell Jimmy that he is only 5-foot-7 as he is absolutely fearless and some one who opposing players hate to play against,” Ginson added in further praise of Roy, who had 15 goals, 13 assists, 28 points in 49 games with the NOJHL Nickel Barons in 2013-2014.

Roy becomes the seventh player — and third former NOJHLer — to commit to St. Charles in the past three days.

What you think about “Jimmy Roy shows his Spirit”

  1. The Sudbury Nickel Barons will miss that kid,he never stops. Good for him and he will probably get the respect he deserves in St.Charles.

  2. Another good player leaving the NOJHL for the CIHL .. .. .. I am begining to detect a pattern here. Jimmy is a great little player .. .. Nickel Barons loss is a big GAIN for the St Charles Spirit!

  3. Loved watching this guy play last season, I recall a game were the Barons won 1-0 last year and Roy had got the only goal of the game early in the first period if my memory serves me correctly, but he was all over the ice that night and the opposition hated playing against this guy, Good luck with the new team. That’s 3 vital cogs on the Baron squad that have moved on. WOW whole new team next year I guess.

  4. Well we’re not hearing of players going from the CIHL to the NOJHL because they haven’t started yet, maybe after season one is over some might jump back. Time will tell.
There are at least 2 players that I know (and I don’t know much) that have left the CIHL for the NOJHL, Attwood and Chandler (ex Rivermen) have apparently signed with the eskis. RR have you heard? There may be more that may have left the Rivermen for other clubs but I wouldn’t know.

    1. eski01,

If NOJHL teams have players they have signed and if they send me the info, I will do a story from it, just as I do for Soo Thunderbirds, Blind River Beavers, Powassan Voodoos in the NOJHL and all teams that send me info from the CIHL.

      Regards,

      RR

  5. Hello Eskifan,
Chandler was cut from the Espanola Rivermen around the half way point of the 2013-14 season — and I don’t think Attwood was being asked to come back. He is a nice kid just didn’t fit in.
