Hard-working forward Brian Stack — known more for his shutdown style of play than his offense — scored late in the third period to lift the Batchewana Attack to a 1-0 win over the visiting Kalkaska Rhinos in a Canadian International Hockey League game played on Saturday at Rankin Arena.

The goal for Stack, who played for the Soo Indians major midgets in 2013-2014, was his seventh of the season in 24 games.

The win for Batchewana improved its record to 28-0-1.

Stefan Demetz posted the shutout for Batchewana, which along with Kalkaska and the Espanola Rivermen, head south next weekend for a showcase tournament that is being hosted by the Detroit Fighting Irish of the Midwest Jr. Hockey League.

Fighting Irish coach-general manager Dan Vasquez told HockeyNewsNorth.com that more than 20 representatives from American Collegiate Hockey Association, Division 3 National Collegiate Athletic Association and Tier 2 junior teams will be at the showcase, which will be held at the Ice Box Sports Centre in the Detroit suburb of Brownstown.
