Hounds, Nickel Caps do well

Soo U18 Jr. Greyhounds and Sudbury U16 Nickel Capitals of the Great North Under 18 Hockey League both made it to the semi-final round in their respective categories at the esteemed Waterloo Gold Puck Tournament which concluded today.

Just making it to the semi-finals was an accomplishment as the U18 Hounds were one of 20 teams in their age section and the U16 Nickel Capitals were one of a group of 16 on the younger side.

The U18 Hounds went 3-0-1 in the round robin before losing to the Ajax Pickering Raiders by a 4-1 score in their semi-final match. Through the five games in total, Harley Wardell led the U18 Hounds with five points while Callum McAuley and Gabe Palumbo had four apiece.

As for the U16 Nickel Capitals, they posted a 4-0-0 record during the round robin before losing 3-1, including an empty net goal, to the Huron Perth Lakers in today’s semi-final match. Points wise in the five games, the Nickel Caps were led by Anthony Bertrand with seven, Cameron Vehkala, Cole Dubowsky and Max Campbell with six apiece, Keynan Kydd with five and Coulson Bell with four. Between the pipes, Nick Marson won both of his starts and allowed just two goals.
