A nod for a Nickel Capital

Dominic Morris has been an outright bright light for the offensively challenged Sudbury U18 Nickel Capitals of the Great North Under 18 Hockey League thus far this season.

A 2005 birth year forward, Morris has scored eight of Sudbury’s 14 goals through nine games of the 2022-2023 regular season. He also has an assist, meaning that the 6-foot, 190 pound skater has figured in on nine of the Nickel Capitals 14 goals.

And after being blanked through the first three games of the season, Morris has scored at least one goal in six successive outings for the U18 Nickel Caps, who have a record of 2-7-0 in the Great North.

As the Nickel Caps have struggled to score as a team, they have received good goaltending from the duo of A.J. Borrelli and Kieran Ouellette. Borrelli has a 1-4-0 record with a 3.58 goals against average while Ouellette has a 1-5-0 mark with a 4.26 GAA.

Notably, the Sudbury talent pool is shared as the Nickel Capitals have two teams in the Great North — under 18 and under 16.
