North Bay product Marshall McCharles will continue his hockey development close to home. A 6-foot-1, 180 pound forward and 2022 Ontario Hockey League priority selections draft pick of the Sudbury Wolves, McCharles has signed with the Sudbury Cubs of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League.

The 16-year old McCharles, who netted 20 points in 23 games with the North Bay Under 16 Trappers of the Great North Under 18 Hockey League in 2021-2022, was a 10th round pick by the OHL Wolves at this year’s draft.

Darryl Moxam, the new head coach of the NOJHL Cubs, said the signing of McCharles gives the OHL Wolves draft pick “a great opportunity for his development as well as our team’s success.”

The youngster in turn noted that “wearing that blue and white (Cubs) jersey will be quite an honour and I look forward to contributing to the team’s success.”

McCharles will be one of two 16-year old rookie forwards and OHL draft picks who are poised to play in the NOJHL for the Cubs this season. The other is Nolan Newton, who was a fifth round pick of the Barrie Colts at the ’22 priority selections draft from the Sudbury Nickel Capitals of the Great North loop. The 5-foot-10, 170 pound Newton potted 36 points in 27 games to lead the under 16 Nickel Capitals in scoring during the ’21-22 season.
