Great North at Gold Puck

Multiple teams from the Great North Under 18 Hockey League will compete in two separate divisions at this week’s renowned Waterloo Gold Puck Tournament.

Soo Jr. Greyhounds, Timmins Majors, Kapuskasing Flyers and Sudbury U18 Nickel Capitals will be among 20 teams from across Ontario that will take part in the Under 18 AAA division. And the Sudbury U16 Nickel Capitals and North Bay U16 Trappers will be among 16 contenders in the Under 16 AAA sector at the annual Gold Puck event.

A number of 2007 birth year players from the Great North will have the opportunity to showcase their talents to Ontario Hockey League scouts ahead of the 2023 priority selections draft. Among the notable Great North prospects with 2007 birthdates include the following.

• Goalies Alex Hall of Timmins and Nick Marson of the U16 Nickel Capitals.

• Defensemen Cale Prpic and Alexandre Valade of the U16 Nickel Capitals, Rylan Fellinger, Declan Gallivan and Candon O’Neill of the Jr. Greyhounds, Cole Ellis of Timmins, Jackson Rivet of the U16 Trappers and Alexis Fournier of Kapuskasing.

• Forwards Max Campbell, Cole Dubowsky, Keynan Kydd, Anthony Bertrand and Coulson Bell of the U16 Nickel Capitals, Hudson Chitaroni, Brendan Cooke and Deven Jones-McDonald of the Jr. Greyhounds, Brant Romaniuk, Hudson Prisco-Duquette and Bryden Shank of the U16 Trappers and Ian Lachance of Timmins.
