Great North final tied at one

Soo Thunderbirds have taken home-ice advantage in their best-of-five, Great North Midget Hockey League championship series with the New Liskeard Cubs.

The Thunderbirds and Cubs split the first two games of the series on the weekend in New Liskeard. The Soo won the opener 4-2 before New Liskeard rebounded to take Game 2 by a 3-1 margin.

The series now shifts to John Rhodes Community Centre in the Soo for Games 3 and 4.

Game 3 is slated for Saturday at 6:30 p.m. and Game 4 is scheduled for Sunday at 4 p.m.

New Liskeard finished in first place during the GNMHL regular season, just two points ahead of the Soo.
