Top-seeded North Bay Trappers will return to the ice following an opening-round playoff bye in one of two Great North Midget Hockey League semi-final series slated to start this weekend.

North Bay, which had the bye thanks to a first-place finish during the regular season, will play host to the fourth-seeded Kapuskasing Flyers in Games 1 and 2 of the best-of-five series.

Second-ranked Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves will entertain third-place Soo Greyhounds in Games 1 and 2 of their set.

The Trappers, who won the regular season title with an impressive 30-5-1 record, will have the use of Memorial Gardens for the two games against Kapuskasing this weekend. North Bay officials have confirmed game times as 7:30 p.m. on Friday and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.

North Bay faces a formidable opponent in veteran-laden Kapuskasing.

The last two times the teams met in January, both games were decided by one goal with North Bay winning 3-2 in overtime and Kap eking out a 4-3 triumph.

As for the Sudbury-Soo series, the opening two matches are set for Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. at Countryside Arena in the Nickel City.
