As the clock ticks on the waning weekends of the Great North Midget Hockey League regular-season schedule the top four places are still up for grabs.

Thanks to the fourth-place Kapuskasing Flyers taking three of four points from the pace-setting North Bay Trappers on the weekend, the upper rung of the seven-team Great North loop has tightened.

North Bay still leads the parade with 53 points from a record of 26-4-1 but the second-place Soo Greyhounds have closed to within 2 points of the Trappers. The Soo has 51 points from a record of 24-6-3 but has played 2 more games than North Bay.

Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves are next with 45 points from a record of 22-7-1. Kapuskasing also has 45 points from a record of 21-9-3 but the Flyers have played three more games than Sudbury.

North Bay has played 31 games, the Soo has played 33, Sudbury has played 30 and Kapuskasing has played 33.

Teams in the Great North play a 36-game regular-season schedule.

Lucas Theriault of the Soo is the league scoring leader with 34 goals, 42 assists, 76 points. Then it’s Noah Boman of the Soo at 28-36-64, Samuel Bourdages of Kapuskasing at 34-26-60, Jacob Burton of Sudbury at 20-40-60 and Camaryn Baber of the Soo at 32-27-59.

Joel Rainville of North Bay tops all goalies with a 15-1-0 record and 1.73 goals against average.

Baber and Rainville both have 2001 birth dates and are among the top prospects from the Great North for this year’s Ontario Hockey League draft.
