Great North to Team Canada

If this doesn’t speak volumes about the under-rated Great North Under 18 Hockey League then nothing will. Team Canada has unveiled its roster for this month’s World Junior Championships and two of the players are from northern Ontario.

They are goalie Ben Gaudreau and defenseman Jack Matier. Now 19-years of age, both are graduates of the GNU18HL from their hometown teams — Gaudreau of the North Bay Trappers and Matier of the Soo Jr. Greyhounds. And both were first round picks from the Great North to the Ontario Hockey League — Gaudreau by the Sarnia Sting and Matier by the Ottawa 67’s.

And now the two, who are also National Hockey League draft picks — Gaudreau by the San Jose Sharks and Matier by the Nashville Predators — are not only about to represent northern Ontario and Ontario but Team Canada.

Yes, Team Canada. They are the North!

What you think about “Great North to Team Canada”

  1. It’s too bad Ben lost the starters job but Milic is no slouch.
Good luck in the Gold medal game.

Before the release of the 2 NHL players to the Junior team, I had this team picked for a Bronze. Only 5 OHL players on the roster didn’t sit well with me.

What a difference 2 players make eh?
