New Liskeard Cubs have taken to 2020 in style. The Cubs have a record of 3-1-0 thus far in the new year to move closer to their arch-rival Timmins Majors in the Great North Midget Hockey League standings.

The surge has improved New Liskeard’s record to 8-12-2 in the eight-team Great North.

And with 18 points, sixth-place New Liskeard is just five points back of fifth-seeded Timmins while holding five games in hand on the Majors, who have a record of 10-14-3.

So far in the 2020 portion of the regular-season slate within the Great North, New Liskeard has produced three tough wins — 5-3 over Timmins, 3-2 over the North Bay Major Trappers and a 4-0 blanking of the Sudbury Minor Wolves. New Liskeard’s only loss thus far in 2002 was a narrow 5-4 defeat at the hands of the third-place Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves.

Sault Ste. Marie product Zach Prusky has been in the net for two of the New Liskeard victories in 2020 while his goalie partner, Alexander Date, pitched the shutout in the win over the Minor Wolves of Sudbury.

Five members of the Cubs have 20 points or more in league play to date.

Ben White leads the New Liskeard scoring parade with 11 goals, 19 assists, 30 points. Up next are Jackson Buffam with 10-18-28 totals, Zachery Lajoie with 14-9-23 numbers, Matt Hill with 15-6-21 statistics and Tyson Bradford with nine goals, 11 assists, 20 points.
