Signs of progress are evident as the Timmins Majors of the Great North Under 18 Hockey League have shrugged off a slow start to the 2021-2022 season.

After starting out the season with an 0-7-2 record through their first nine games, rookie head coach Kevin Walker and the Majors have won three of their last five outings — with all of the wins coming against teams that are ahead of Timmins in the standings.

Victories by scores of 7-6 over the Sudbury U16 Nickel Capital Wolves, 2-1 over the North Bay U16 Trappers and 5-1 over their arch-rival Kapuskasing Flyers have improved the Majors record in league play to 3-9-2.

Thomas Beard leads the Timmins scoring chart with seven goals, six assists, 13 points. Next are Tristan Bouchard at 2-9-11 and Bradley Moore with 8-2-10 totals.

The Majors are on the road for games against the New Liskeard Cubs and North Bay U18 Trappers this weekend.
