Timmins Majors halted a four game losing streak and solved a goal scoring famine at the same time with a 5-2 home ice win over the Sudbury U18 Nickel Capitals. Prior to the Sunday celebration of victory the Majors had scored just one goal while dropping four in a row.

Zach Secord netted a pair of goals to spark the Timmins triumph. Ryan Armitage, Shawn Gagnon and Jordan McLeod also scored for the Majors in support of goalie Sam Rudner, who helped his own cause with an assist.

“It was really nice to see our guys score some goals,” understated Majors coach Steve Polyblank. “We just tried to get pucks on net. A lot of our guys thought they were snake bit. It took a little pressure off the coaching staff, too … it was nice to see us get a few goals.”

Polyblank noted that getting shots on goal cannot be over emphasized.

“It is never a bad play to get a shot on goal,” Polyblank relayed to Postmedia. “Sometimes, there is a better play, but getting a shot on net is never a bad play. If it is on net, there is a potential for the puck to go in.”

Up next for the Majors, who are in fifth place in the eight team Great North Under 18 Hockey League with a record of 6-6-1 are a pair of road games against the North Bay U16 Trappers this coming weekend.
