They are still not close to where new head coach Denny Lambert has aspirations for them to be. However, after winning just one of five games to begin the 2023-2024 Great North Under 18 Hockey League season, the Soo Jr. Greyhounds have five points from a record of 2-2-1 since Lambert and his new staff of assistant coaches took over.

A modest surge, at best. But forward progress, nonetheless.

Notably, the Jr. Greyhounds of the Great North do have performers who have stood out thus far. One is A.J. Borrelli, who is currently the top rated goalie in the Great North with a goals against average of 2.00.

And there is encouragement that comes from a balanced scoring sheet. Rookie forwards Espen Escasa and Seb Dos Reis are tied for the team scoring lead with nine points apiece. Escasa has four goals and Dos Reis has dented the twine three times.

Next up are Sammy Caruso and Griffen Albert, both with four goals, three assists, seven points, Wyatt Leblanc with 3-4-7 totals and Danny MacDonald with 4-2-6 numbers. All are rookie forwards with the exception of Albert.

Meanwhile, a tough road test awaits the 3-6-1 Jr. Hounds this weekend as they head to Sudbury for a pair of games against the U18 Wolves, who lead the Great North standings with a record of 9-2-1.
