Rayside-Balfour Canadians of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League have signed 2000 birth-year goalie Matty Mayhew from the Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves of the Great North Midget Hockey League.

Rayside-Balfour president Adrian Gedye confirmed the signing of the 5-foot-11, 170-pound puck-stopper to HockeyNewsNorth.com.

“We are very pleased that Matty has put his trust in our program for his future development,” Gedye told HockeyNewsNorth.com. “He is a great young goaltender who has aspirations of getting a (National Collegiate Athletic Association) commitment in the coming years and we hope to help him achieve that.”

Gedye noted that he and Rayside-Balfour coach-general manager Dave Clancy have done their homework on Mayhew, who is from the Greater Sudbury Area.

“Dave and our staff were extremely impressed with Matty’s play last season and at our recent spring camp,” Gedye relayed.
