Utilizing their affiliation with the North Bay Battalion of the Ontario Hockey League, the Powassan Voodoos of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League have signed defenseman Tyson Rismond. A 2006 birth year skater, Rismond played for the Sudbury Nickel Capitals of the Great North Under 18 Hockey League in 2021-2022.

A fourth round pick by North Bay at the 2022 OHL priority selections draft, Rismond rang up four goals, 10 assists, 14 points in 23 regular season games in the Great North in ’21-22.

“I think it is pretty cool to play at the next level and I know there will be an adjustment to make playing in a faster league against older guys,” the 6-foot-1, 185 pound Rismond said about moving up to Powassan and the NOJHL.

Adam Dennis, who is the general manager of the OHL Battalion, is looking forward to watching Rismond develop in the NOJHL with Powassan.

“Tyson is a player we are looking forward to having close to North Bay. He is a smooth skating, physical defenceman that every team needs,” said Dennis.

Meanwhile, Voodoos general manager Chris Dawson is of the notion that Rismond will be a good fit on the Powassan blue line.

“I’ve seen Tyson play since he was eight years old and he has continued to develop and improve every year. He’s a big strong skating defender who comes from a great family so he checks off a lot of boxes for us,” said Dawson.
