Seasoned defenseman Evan Roach has opted to return to the Soo Jr. Greyhounds of the Great North Under 18 Hockey League from the Soo Indians of the Michigan Amateur Hockey Association’s Under 18 program.

The 6-foot-1, 175 pound Roach was picked by the hometown Soo Greyhounds in the 15th round of the 2022 Ontario Hockey League priority selections draft from the U18 Jr. Greyhounds. In 29 games, regular season and playoffs included for the Great North champion Jr. Greyhounds in 2021-2022, Roach tallied three goals, five assists, eight points from his blue line post.

Evan Roach is an OHL draft pick of the Soo Greyhounds

Roach played in five MAHA games with the Indians this season after suffering a quad injury in early August that caused him to miss what would have been his first OHL camp with the Greyhounds. His return to the Jr. Greyhounds — Roach was in the lineup for a pair of wins over the Sudbury U18 Nickel Capitals this past weekend — strengthens an already strong team that leads the Great North with a perfect 9-0-0 record.

Hailing from Batchewana First Nation, Roach is the son of Gary Roach, who was a high-end defenseman with the OHL Greyhounds during their 1993 Memorial Cup championship glory year.
