Trappers v. Jr. Greyhounds
It will be a four game weekend of North Bay v. Sault Ste. Marie this Saturday and Sunday as Great North Under 18 Hockey League action highlights two U18 and two U16 teams.
Saturday: The weekend begins with the North Bay U16 Trappers and the Soo U16 Jr. Greyhounds facing off at 5 p.m. Then it will be the U18 Trappers and the U18 Jr. Greyhounds in an 8 p.m. start. Both games are slated for John Rhodes Community Centre.


Sunday: The U18 Trappers and the U16 Jr. Greyhounds get it started at noon hour. Then it will be the U16 Trappers and the U18 Jr. Greyhounds at 3 p.m. Both games are again scheduled for the Rhodes Centre.
Standings: The U18 Trappers lead the nine team Great North with 43 points from a record of 21-2-1. The U18 Jr. Greyhounds are in third place with 30 points from a record of 12-5-6. The U16 Greyhounds are in fifth place with 22 points from a record of 10-9-2. And the U16 Trappers are not far behind with 21 points from a record of 10-12-1.
U18 Trappers: The league leaders feature the top two scorers in the Great North. Scoring machine Benjamin Brunton is the runaway leader with 41 goals, 28 assists, 69 points in 24 games. Then it is Martin Brassard with 18 goals, 27 assists, 45 points. The U18 Trappers also boast a top 1-2 twine tandem in Logan Coates and Carson Ruddy.


U18 Jr. Greyhounds: Gavin Killoran leads the Soo crew with 13 goals, 24 assists 37 points followed by fellow forward Espen Escasa with 15-12-27 totals and ace defenseman Dylan Rousselle with 8-19-27 numbers. The U18 Jr. Hounds also have a dandy duo of goalies in Nick Marson and Sebastien Brassard.
U16 Trappers: This is a team of 2009 birth year players who are eligible for the 2025 Ontario Hockey League priority selections draft. U16 Trappers of particular note are forwards Owen Smith, Ty Dubreuil, Janssen Fransen, Grady Dale, Phil Lafontaine and Cedar Montreuil and defenseman Carter Brownlee. All bring a varying degree of skills and smarts to the program.


U16 Jr. Greyhounds: Another unit of players with 2009 birth dates that include forwards Adam Pszeniczny, Wyatt Jarratt and Jacob Vincent and defensemen Kingston Kellar and Anthony Carbone. Notably, Jarratt has a pro style shot and plays a physical game that embodies his lumberjack build while Pszeniczny has size that matches his skill.
Scouting: OHL Central Scouting will have a presence at this weekend’s games with particular attention on 2009 birth year players from both North Bay and the Soo who are up for the 2025 priority selections draft process. Not to be forgotten is the OHL supplemental draft for players bypassed in previous years.
