Better late than never. After being bypassed at the 15 round, 2020 Ontario Hockey League priority selections draft, two players from the Soo Jr. Greyhounds were high picks at today’s 2021 OHL under-18 draft.

Right winger Calem Mangone went in the first round, second overall, to the Saginaw Spirit. Mangone is a 5-foot-9, 160 pound pepper pot with skill and a nice scoring touch.

Defenseman Adam Barone then went in the first round, sixth overall, to the Sudbury Wolves. The 5-foot-11, 190 pound Barone is a highly skilled defender.

Both players have developed the past two seasons with the Jr. Greyhounds of the Great North Under 18 Hockey League and their head coach, Jamie Henderson.

Henderson is beyond thrilled for both players.

“We are so excited for both Calem and Adam and for their families,” Henderson told Hockey News North. “In a year with (COVID-19) challenges they stayed focused on the task of getting better each and every day.

“Their commitment to being great young men and great teammates was evident since they joined our program. These are two young men who are so driven and this is another step in their journey. It’s a very special day for this program but most importantly for these two young men and their families who have been tremendous supporters for them,” summed up Henderson.
