They are one of two under 16 teams that compete against the older clubs of the Great North Under 18 Hockey League. And specifically, not only are they youthful but the Sudbury U16 Nickel Capitals have a splendid record of 8-3-1 in the eight team Great North.

The U16 Nickel Capitals are in Waterloo this weekend for the much heralded Gold Puck Tournament. Their four scheduled games in the round robin are against Oshawa, Markham, Whitby and Quinte, which means the Sudbury skaters will be up against formidable foes.

At any rate, the talented U16 Nickel Capitals have more than shown that they can hold their own in league play as evidenced by the 8-3-1 record that they have in the U18 Great North loop.

Among the many key performers for the U16 Nickel Capitals — and there is a team full of talent — the list includes goalie Nick Marson, defensemen Carter Carriere, Carter Makasoff, Cale Prpic and Alexandre Valade and forwards Max Campbell, Cole Dubowsky, Keynan Kydd, Anthony Bertrand, Cameron Vehkala and Coulson Bell.

To cap off the scouting insider rap on the Nickel Caps, they are well coached by Jordan Cheechoo.
