Soo Jr. Greyhounds have added to their lead atop the standings of the Great North Under 18 Hockey League with two more victories.

The U18 Jr. Hounds began a two-game road trip to Sudbury on Friday with a 6-0 win over the U18 Nickel Capitals. Brendan Cooke netted three goals for the Soo, giving him 13 on the season. The Soo outshot Sudbury by a wide 45-15 margin and the stellar play of U18 Nickel Capitals goalie A.J. Borrelli stood out. Nathan Maguire had the shutout for the U18 Jr. Greyhounds.

And this afternoon, playing against the much younger — and injury riddled — U16 Nickel Capitals, the U18 Jr. Hounds scored a 4-1 victory. Deven Jones McDonald scored twice for the Soo, which outshot Sudbury 30-19. Maverick Fletcher was between the pipes for the U18 Jr. Hounds while Nick Marson made 26 saves in defeat for the U16 Nickel Capitals. The U16 Nickel Capitals were minus four regular players for today’s game due to injury.

With a record of 16-2-0, the U18 Jr. Greyhounds maintain a healthy lead atop the standings of the eight-team GNU18HL.

Meanwhile, the U16 Nickel Capitals now have a record of 9-7-1 while the U18 Nickel Capitals have a 5-14-0 mark.
