First place finishers during the recently completed regular season, Soo Jr. Greyhounds are being joined by their fellow seven member teams at the championship tournament of the Great North Under 18 Hockey League.

The event will take place beginning on Wednesday of this week in Kapuskasing.

Not only did the Jr. Greyhounds finish atop the regular season standings with a record of 20-4-0 but boast the league’s leading scorer in second-year forward Lincoln Moore and the top ranked goalie in rookie Charlie Burns. Star players aside, Jr. Greyhounds head coach Jamie Henderson likes the growth of his team.

‘It’s been a real roller coster season with everything going on outside of the rink really. These young people have been asked to do so much and I’m happy for all the players that they are able to get back to what we consider normal life,” Henderson told Hockey News North.

“On the ice we have seen tremendous growth both individually and as a team. Especially the last month or so we seem to get contributions from different guys every game which is great to see. The team had a real focus since the lockdown lifted and our practices all season really have been fantastic. We are certainly proud of the group and they are excited for the opportunity ahead this week,” Henderson added.
