U18 Jr. Hounds in Waterloo

As the first place team in the eight member Great North Under 18 Hockey League, the Soo Jr. Greyhounds are under the spotlight at the prestigious Waterloo Gold Puck Tournament that is being held this week.

The Jr. Greyhounds lead the Great North standings with a record of 10-1-0 and are among 20 teams from across Ontario that are taking part in the Under 18 AAA division at the Gold Puck tourney. Three other U18 teams from the Great North are also in Waterloo — Timmins Majors, Kapuskasing Flyers and Sudbury Nickel Capitals.

A well rounded team, the Jr. Greyhounds feature seven forwards who are averaging a point per game or better in Great North play — they are Hudson Chitaroni, Gabe Palumbo, Cole Cond, Brendan Cooke, Deven McDonald-Jones, Callum McAuley and Jacob Smith. And Jr. Greyhounds goalie Maverick Fletcher has a 6-0-0 record, three shutouts and the best goals against average in the Great North at 0.83.

Meanwhile, in the Under 16 AAA division, the Sudbury Nickel Capitals and North Bay Trappers of the Great North are among 16 contestants at the annual Gold Puck event.
