One door closes, another one opens. Cut by his hometown Soo Jr. Greyhounds of the Great North Under 18 Hockey League, Madden Glavota has rebounded to secure a position with the rival Sudbury U18 Wolves.

With a November 20, 2008 birth date, Glavota will be one of the younger U18 players in the Great North come the looming ’24-25 season. The youngster said he is “ecstatic” to sign with Sudbury following a recent showing at the U18 Wolves camp in which he impressed first year head coach Scott Rienguette and his staff.

A gritty forward who stands in at 5 foot 10, 170 pounds, Glavota skated for the U16 AA Jr. Greyhounds in ’23-24. Notably, he has deep hockey bloodlines through his dad, John Glavota.

The elder Glavota was a hard rock defenseman for the powerhouse Soo Legion AAA midget squad of the early 1990s before going on to play two years of junior hockey in midwestern Ontario followed by four seasons at Laurentian University in Sudbury, where he met his future wife — and Madden’s mom — Angie. An overachiever, Glavota then toughed it out for nine seasons at the minor pro level in various outposts before the ultimate honour of playing for the Croatian National Team.

As the elder Glavota made it the hard way, so too it seems as though the younger Glavota is following the same path.
