Zachary ignites Jr. Hounds
Soo Jr. Greyhounds have started a hectic week of play with their arch-rival Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves the right way. Heart-and-soul forward Ty Zachary lit the lamp with a hat trick and added an assist for good measure as the Jr. Greyhounds scored a 4-2 road decision over the Nickel Capital Wolves in Great North Midget Hockey League action from Wednesday.
The three goals and an assist boosted Zachary’s point totals to 9-25-34 on the season.
Fellow forward Michael Chaffay also had a big outing for the first-place Jr. Greyhounds with a goal and two assists and defenseman Mateo Perri netted a pair of helpers in front of rookie goalie Noah Metivier.
Chaffay now has 41 points on the season, including 28 goals, which are second most in the league.
In a scheduling quirk, the Jr. Greyhounds and Nickel Capital Wolves will meet three more times this week.
And all three games are slated for the Soo — Friday night at 8:30 at GFL Memorial Gardens, Saturday afternoon at 12:30 at John Rhodes Community Center and a Sunday matinee match at 1:00, also at the Rhodes.
The league-leading Jr. Greyhounds now have a record of 25-4-3 while the third-place Nickel Capital Wolves have a mark of 19-11-2.
