Sault Ste. Marie product Tyson Doucette of the Sarnia Sting of the Ontario Hockey League has committed to Colgate University for the ’25-26 season. Colgate is a Division 1, National Collegiate Athletic Association program.

“I believe this is a great opportunity to get an education and help further my path to play pro hockey,” relayed Doucette. “I chose Colgate because I believe this will give me my best chance. The school has a deep history involving hockey and is well known for its educational facilities and programs.”

Dylan Seca, general manager of the OHL Sting, commented on Doucette getting a D1 gig to play at Colgate.

“This is great news for Tyson and the Doucette family. We are thrilled that he will be able to continue his play in the NCAA at Colgate. Tyson is a player whose upside is still just scratching the surface and someone who’s always valued his academic studies. The ability to combine both at such a great institution is very exciting for him and his family.”

The Sting signed Doucette as a free agent in the fall of the 2022. The smooth, skilled forward spent the ’21-22 season split between the Soo Thunderbirds in the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League and the Aurora Tigers of the Ontario Jr. Hockey League. Prior to that, he suited up for the Soo Jr. Greyhounds of the Great North Under 18 Hockey League.

Now in his third OHL season with the Sting, Doucette has recorded 40 goals, 36 assists, and 76 points in 158 regular season games. This season, the 20-year-old forward is Sarnia’s scoring leader with 14 goals, 10 assists, 24 points in 34 games.
