Eagles d-man off to Marian

A sixth player from the 2023-2024 edition of the Soo Eagles of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League has a school commitment for the 2024-2025 season. Defenseman Lane Janssen is headed to Marian University in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Marian is a Division 3, National Collegiate Athletic Association program.

The 6 foot 1, 175 pound Janssen played in 93 games for the Eagles over the past two seasons and produced four goals, 47 assists, 51 points.

Eagles president and general manager Bruno Bragagnolo told Hockey News North that Janssen is “going to a good school that has a good, solid hockey program. And Marian is getting a good, solid defenseman in Lane Janssen, who is also a character individual.”

Other Eagles to get school commitments during this off season are forwards Jack Paweski and Darby McCarthy, defensemen Coby Fox and Michael Starzomski and goalie Marino Ramirez. Notably, Paweski led the Eagles in scoring this past season with 71 points, including 19 goals.

Paweski has a commitment from Dubuque University, which is a Division 3, NCAA program. McCarthy is also headed to an NCAA D3 school, Southern New Hampshire University as is Fox, who has committed to Johnson and Wales.

Meanwhile, Starzomski and Ramirez are both off to American Collegiate Hockey Association schools. Starzomski is staying at home to attend Sault College while Ramirez is bound for the University of Mary.
