Lakers add to net worth

Lake Superior State University Lakers now have their three goalies for the 2014-2015 Western Collegiate Hockey Association season.

HockeyNewsNorth.com has learned that the latest twine tender to commit to LSSU is Gordy Defiel, a 1993 birth-year who played for Coquitlam Express of the British Columbia Hockey League in 2013-2014.

Prior to going to Coquitlam, Defiel tended goal for the Wisconsin Wilderness and Minnesota Wilderness of the Superior International Jr. Hockey League.

The 6-foot-1, 180 pound Defiel joins fellow freshmen Kevin Aldridge and Peter Megariotis in the Laker net.

Aldridge backstopped the Fairbanks Ice Dogs to the North American Hockey League championship in 2013-2014.

Megariotis, who helped the Port Huron Fighting Falcons to the NAHL’s North Division title in 2011-2012, attended LSSU during the 2013-2014 term but did not play as a transfer student from Ohio State University.

What you think about “Lakers add to net worth”

  1. Randy,

I think Megariotis will be a Junior academically, but have 3 years of hockey eligibility left at the NCAA level. Whether he stays for those 3 years or not is another matter.

    1. Cookie,

      You are correct.

I have him as a freshman player but you are correct in that he is going into his third year of academic studies, which does make him a junior.

      Regards,

      Randy

  2. If Damon Whitten keeps the roster size the same as we’ve had in recent years, we should expect to see another forward and another defenseman commit for next season.

    1. He told me the same thing.

In the past few weeks Whitten has added d-man Aidan Wright and now the goalie, both — interestingly — from the BCHL.

I would love to see LSSU add forward Scott Cuthrell from the same-town Soo Eagles.

  3. My impression is that while he was at Michigan Tech, both the BCHL and USHL were prime recruiting grounds that Damon covered, so I’m not surprised that his first couple of recruits are from the BCHL. No doubt he will look elsewhere as well.

I haven’t seen Cuthrell play but am aware of him. I’m not sure if Damon has seen him play. If not, then that probably doesn’t bode well for Cuthrell’s chances. Damon would be more likely to go with someone he is familiar with.

  4. Hey Randy have you heard from Kris Dunbar on when the 2014-15 schedule will be released? Anyways, hopefully our new goalies will be good.
