Lakers to honour Gil Somes
It will be a weekend of firsts and a night of recognition.
Lake Superior State Lakers will play host to Western Collegiate Hockey Association rival Alaska Anchorage for the first time ever in regular-season action this Friday-Saturday nights at Taffy Abel Arena.
Game times are 7:37 p.m. on Friday and 7:07 p.m. on Saturday. Both games will be broadcast on radio station 99.5 Yes-FM.
Saturday’s Laker game has been billed as Gil Somes Night in recognition of the team’s long-time equipment manager.
Somes has been involved with the Lakers for four decades.
The Lakers, with a record of 8-10-0, are in ninth place in the WCHA standings.
Individually, forward Alex Globke leads the Lakers and all WCHA freshman with 10 goals, 14 assists, 24 points.
