NOJHL grads off to school

Teams in the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League have long been suppliers of players to the Division 3 level of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. And some of the more recent NCAA commitments ahead of the ’26-27 season are as follows.

Keiran Caughran. A goalie from the French River Rapids, Caughran is off to SUNY Canton to further his education and tend twine for the Kangaroos, who are members of the State University of New York Athletic Conference. “If French River hadn’t given me the opportunity to play as much as I did, I don’t think this chance to play NCAA D3 would have happened,” said Caughran. “Thanks to (Rapids head coach and general manager) Paul Frustaglio and the organization for giving me a chance.”

Lucas Lowe. A forward with the Timmins Rock for four full seasons while appearing in close to 250 NOJHL games, playoffs included, Lowe has committed to attend Buffalo State University. The Buffalo State Bengals compete in the State University of New York Athletic Conference “Playing four seasons for us, Lucas was a big part of our of organization, including our 2023 championship team,” said Timmins head coach and general manager Brandon Perry. “His commitment was a byproduct of hard work and a testament to his character.”

Braedyn Cyr. An all star defenseman who was the team captain for Timmins in ’25-26, Cyr has committed to attend Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, Conn., where he will further his education and skate with the Falcons. Albertus Magnus competes in the United Collegiate Hockey Conference. “Braedyn was a model of consistency for our program the last two seasons,” offered Rock head coach and general manager Brandon Perry.

Owen Logan. A defenseman who joined the Iroquois Falls Storm in a mid season NOJHL trade with the Espanola Paper Kings, Logan has committed to the Rivier University Raiders, who are based in New Hampshire. The Rivier Raiders compete in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Worth Noting. The number of NOJHL players from the ’25-26 season who have committed to various school programs ahead of the ’26-27 campaign now stands at 15.
