Robbie Payne strikes again
Leave it to Northern Michigan Wildcats high-scoring forward Robbie Payne to once again show a flair for the dramatic.
The sophomore sensation scored his fourth game-winning goal of the season late in the third period to lift Northern Michigan to a 3-2 win over the Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves on Friday.
Payne now has 10 goals on the season for Northern Michigan, which solidified its hold on fifth place in the 10-team Western Collegiate Hockey Association with the home-ice triumph.
A product of Gaylord, Michigan, Payne starred for the Soo Eagles when they won the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League championship in 2010-2011.
With the Friday-night win, Northern Michigan has an 8-7-4 record within the WCHA and is 11-10-6 overall. The Wildcats are home to Alaska-Anchorage again tonight.
