Laker is WCHA rookie-of-the-month
Lake Superior State Lakers freshman forward Gage Torrel has been named Western Collegiate Hockey Association rookie-of-the-month for December.
Torrel becomes the first Laker to win a monthly award of any sort since Lake Superior State joined the WCHA from the erstwhile Central Collegiate Hockey Association in 2013.
In 6 games during December, Torrel scored 2 goals, 5 assists, 7 points for the Lakers.
“It’s always a nice thing to know people are recognizing you and people think you’re playing well,” said Torrel. “I’ve gotten a lot of help from my teammates. It’s not a one-man sport so I have to thank the guys for this award. I’m just very grateful.”
