Steady defender Matt Meininger is moving on from the Soo Eagles of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League via commitment to the Lawrence University Vikings.

Lawrence is a Division 3, National Collegiate Athletic Association school located in Appleton, Wisconsin.

The 6-foot-1, 215-pound Meininger served as the Eagles captain in his only season in the NOJHL. A Metro Detroit product with a 1996 birth date, Meininger played in 53 games for the Eagles over the course of the 2016-2017 season and had 3 goals, 11 assists, 14 points.

In heading to Lawrence, Meininger noted that he wanted to “thank the Soo Eagles for providing me with the opportunity to play my final season of junior hockey that led to an NCAA commitment.”

Eagles general manager/associate coach Bruno Bragagnolo told HockeyNewsNorth.com that Meininger “lived up to our expectations and then some as our captain last season. He definitely was the team leader that (Eagles coach) Jim Capy and I thought he would be when we made him our captain.

“Not only is Matt a great leader and a good person but he is a quality defenseman who will be an asset to the Lawrence program,” Bragagnolo added.
