Unbeaten Lakers home for pair

Riding the crest of four successive triumphs to begin the 2016-2017 season, the high-scoring Lake Superior State Lakers are home to the Alaska Nanooks tonight and Saturday evening at Taffy Abel Arena.

Tonight’s game between the Lakers and their Western Collegiate Hockey Association rivals is slated to begin at 7:37 with Saturday’s match carrying a 7:07 opening faceoff. Both games will be broadcast live on radio station 99.5 Yes-FM.

The Lakers have averaged six goals per outing thus far, which is the best among all Division 1, National Collegiate Athletic Association schools.

Four Lakers are tied for the team scoring lead with seven points apiece — defenceman Owen Headrick (1-6-7) and forwards J.T. Henke (3-4-7), Mitch Hults (2-5-7) and Brayden Gelsinger (3-4-7).

Between the pipes, junior goalie Gordon Defiel has a 4-0-0 record, 2.25 goals against average and .913 save percentage.
